Beachwood Pump Station and Force Main Investigation

The City of Burbank required assistance in evaluating the condition of existing sewer infrastructures and developing capital improvement projects for immediate implementation.

• Condition Assessment of the Beachwood Force Main:  Within the previous 10 years, the force main has ruptured on three separate occasions resulting in emergency response and clean-up from City operations staff.  The project assessed the condition of the existing force main, investigated causes for failure, developed alternatives, and performed a life cycle cost analysis for rehabilitation or replacement.
• Condition Assessment of the Beachwood Pump Station:  Sewage from the southerly half of the City that could not be accommodated into the Beachwood Pump Station over-topped a diversion structure and discharged into the City of Los Angeles North Outfall Sewer.  The project performed a condition assessment of the Beachwood Pump Station to determine the cause for its under performance.  The assessment included temporary flow monitoring stations, installation of miscellaneous monitoring instruments, a 2-day site assessment, and a 7-day data collection period.  With the compiled data, the team prepared a hydraulic study and recommended upgrades to the existing pump station equipment.
